Residency Dates: November 1st 2011 – April 30th, 2012

Maxon Mills houses our exhibition space and half of our winter studios

ABOUT
The Wassaic Project Winter Residency cultivates and supports community for emerging artists, musicians, writers and other creative professionals. The Winter Residency Program offers nine people the opportunity to live and work in the heart of a rural community and offers two local artists studio space. The Wassaic Project seeks a group of people working in a diverse range of media who want to produce, explore, challenge, and expand on their current creative practices, while participating in a grass roots, community-based arts organization.

We are open to proposals for one to six month residencies. We reserve the right to give preference to longer term residents. Please include your month preferences in your application statement.

STUDIOS + FACILITIES
Residents will receive an adaptable raw studio space appropriate to their media and specified needs. There is 24 hour access to the studios and accommodations which include a private bedroom, shared living room / study, dining room, kitchen, and bath.

Local artists who do not need living accommodations are encouraged to apply for studio-only residencies.

Residents are required to bring everything they need for their creative practice including art materials, computers and instruments. The kitchens and houses are fully furnished. Each studio is provided with a table and a chair. If you require additional equipment or have any questions about how we can better accommodate you, email Dana@WassaicProject.org

PROGRAMMING
Participating residents will work intensively to develop, explore, and expand on their practice, meet new peers, and have the opportunity to participate in the Summer Festival 2012.

The Wassaic Project facilitates visits by professionals in a variety of fields who are available to residents for one-on-one meetings and presentations.

TRANSPORTATION
The studios are within easy walking distance of all residency housing. Residents are encouraged to bring a car if they have one, but if they don’t, NYC is easily accessibly by Metro North ($30 round trip) and staff members make a weekly trip to the grocery store for supplies.

FEES
In an effort to serve and support emerging artists, all of the residencies offered are subsidized. The value of the winter residency is $1100 per month – including studio space, residential space, as well as extensive programming, performance and exhibition opportunities. Thanks to our continued support from our donors and grants, residencies are offered at $400 (plus $200 in utilities) per month per resident. As well as one month’s security deposit.

Local artists who do not need living accommodations are encouraged to apply for studio-only residencies. The fee for a studio-only residency is $400 per month, plus one month’s security deposit.

FELLOWSHIPS
There are five fellowships, that are a month long, that decrease the cost of the residency to $200 (plus $200 in utilities) per month, per resident. As well as one month’s security deposit.

Artists receiving fellowships will be expected to donate between 3 – 10 hours of their time per week working for The Wassaic Project, depending on the amount of their fellowship.

To apply for a fellowship, please check the appropriate boxes on your application and include these details in your PDF application.

PARTNERS/COLLABORATORS/PETS
Collaborative teams (willing to share a bedroom and studio) may share the cost of enrollment, however, must pay an additional impact fee of $100 per month. Couples who are both artists (willing to share a bedroom, but who need separate studios) need to apply separately but should make note on their applications that they are a couple. Both artists should also note whether or not they would be willing to come without their spouse or whether their acceptance of the residency is contingent on their spouse also coming.

Residents are welcome to bring partners to The Wassaic Project Residency, but must also pay the additional monthly impact fee. Pets are negotiable, require an in-person interview, and an additional fee.
