I didn’t plan this trip. It had been on my mind for many years. But so had many others. Everything was lined up in my favor. I took the train. And the train took me. And I am glad I did. Wide open windows with an ever-changing landscape felt like a book to me, waiting to be read. The passengers themselves were just as diverse as the landscape we gradually made our way through, over thousands of miles.

This March, we’re happy to present Window Seat, a solo show chronicling residency alumna Verónica González Mayoral’s four-day train trip across the United States in the fall of 2018. The photos in this series take us from Emeryville, California to Penn Station, New York. They are both a reading of the landscape of the United States and of the people who, like González Mayoral, choose to journey across it.
The show is located in the ground floor of Maxon Mills and, like all of our exhibitions, is free of charge.
