Ode Hotel is a group exhibition — and companion to our 2011 Summer Exhibition — presenting artwork that physically and conceptually interacts with the Maxon Mills’ Old Hotel. Curated by Risa Shoup (of BRIC) and Ryan Frank (of the Granary), all seven rooms in the former hotel house individual artist installations, each of which are visually transformative while illuminating their previous function as temporary residences. A central hallway and common areas feature works that reflect the architecture of the space through unorthodox placement on ceilings, sprouting through floorboards, and tucked away in hidden alcoves.

Working in a wide range of media and aesthetic styles, the artists in Ode Hotel collectively speak to the history of the space and the mysteries that lie within it. The result is an exhibition that preserves and investigates the hotel as a temporary home, with distinct and transient occupants visible through each doorway.
